The French artist, Olivier Zabat (b.1965, living in Paris), presented, in two double sets, the four films he realised between 1997 and 2004. With the help of a digital camera, Zabat primarily sketches portraits. These comprise of a registration of actions, with people speaking in front of a neutral backdrop. The camera movements are kept to a minimum and the editing is tight and simple. Attention is fully on the person being portrayed; this serves to strengthen one’s awareness of the absence of the actual subject matter.

His film, “1/3 des Yeux” (1/3 Eyes), was declared best French documentary of the year at the Marseille International Documentary Festival. Some months later another of his films, “Miguel et les Mines” (Miguel and the Mines), was shown at Manifesta 5 in San Sebastian.

“Miguel et les Mines” (2003) and “1/3 des Yeux” (2004) were shown in Cinema Arenberg on Thursday, 09 March at 21h30, in cooperation with Argos, Cinema Arenberg and La Cambre.

“La Femme est Sentimentale” (The Sentimental Woman) (2000) and “Zona Oeste” (Zone West) (2000), were shown in Etablissement D’en Face from 11 March to 24 April, with the opening taking place on Friday, 10 March at 20h.
